Our 2005 Update — Page 3

Family We are happy to report that, on the whole, our families are happy and healthy. Dave’s folks are doing great in Wisconsin. Dave's mom, Annette, and sister-in-law, Marcia, were recently out to visit in San Francisco to celebrate Annette's 70th birthday. Daniel’s grandmother, who we visited last year for her 90th birthday in France, has fallen ill with a few complications. Daniel will likely head back to France soon to spend some time with her. Our pets, Jocko, George and Benny, are amazing. All

three of them are unique and very special to us. We are very lucky to have them in our home and our lives. Politics & Social Causes If you think that political statements have no place in a light and airy holiday narrative, please just skip this section. Otherwise, we urge you to read on. Daniel and Dave made a covenant before their Creator, their family and their friends on May 19th, 2001. From that moment forward, we were married in absolutely every sense of the word. We do everything that a family is supposed to do: we care for each other, we provide for the welfare of the family unit and we support our community. As far as we know, our union has only been an inspiration for other couples, straight or gay, as they try to navigate these difficult waters. We have certainly never devalued the institution of marriage or used it frivolously. Heck, we’ve already been married longer than Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt. Politics in our country, our home, are taking a drastic and sinister turn. A very small minority of fanatics are trying to institutionalize discrimination by creating constitutional amendments that would deny us, American citizens, our right to equal protection under the law. These amendments are vicious and un-American attempts to separate us from our property, our legal rights, our medical directives and our dignity at end of life. None of these pointless pieces of fanatical legislation will do one thing to protect marriage. We are here because we believe in it and have committed our entire lives to defend it, not destroy it. We are begging our family and friends, especially those in the good and fair state of Wisconsin, to resist this urge to scapegoat. It is time to unite this country around its principles – FAMILY being central to those principles. Do not legislate discrimination against your fellow Americans and against the institution of family. Constitutional amendments denying Americans of their right to create a family are inherently unfair and inconsistent with our culture. And finally, we are hearing lots and lots about “bird flu” these days. It is surely a worthy topic and preparation is important. Please don’t allow it to blow away the real facts. Last year, 66 people WORLDWIDE died of Bird Flu. In that same year 2004, 3.1 million human beings died of AIDS. To date, nearly 40 million people have succumbed to this dreadful disease. There is no cure. The crisis is not over. It is not a gay disease. It strikes men, women and children indiscriminately. Every time you hear “Bird Flu” on the news, remember that 8,500 men, women and children died of AIDS today and 8,500 will die tomorrow until find the answers. [Stepping down from the soap box] Okay, everyone who didn’t want to hear the social ramblings can pick back up now, as it will be perfectly safe and vanilla from this point forward. We do wish everyone reading this; our family, our friends and even just people who stumbled upon this page, the happiest of holiday seasons and all the best for 2006. We wish great success and pride for each and every one of you. Most of all, we wish you great peace in a world that hungers for that most of all. Please keep in touch. Happy Holidays!
